Water Warrior of India
1 -Ayyappa Masagi
Resident of Karnataka, he is one the biggest motivator of India for rainwater harvesting and water conservation. By purchasing 6 Acres of land in dray region of a village Gadag, where he started planting rubber and coffee tree for proving these crops can grown and survive with the rainwater they gets. However, he is not succeeded, fail several times and after years of research he found that the method of non-irrigational and recharging borewell could helps him.
After implementing these method he get best result and reaped good harvest for two years and then he start spreading these techniques in his local area. At present Ayyappa has completed and developed 1000 of project in India’s 11 states with successful creation of over 600 lakes.
2- Amla Ruja
She is a Mumbai based social activists, she worked in Rajastahn to help more than 100 villages by tradition harvesting and check dams constructions. She founded Aakar Charitable Trust for the solution of drought regions of Rajasthan. The trust helped in constructing more than 200 check dams in 100+ villages of Rajasthan.
3- Rajendra Singh
He is popularly known as ‘The Water Man of India’, who is recognized and appreciated for his waster restoration efforts in rural India. In year 1959, he reached Rajasthan to setup health center, but soon he realized the people of their need water more than the health care. After that, he stated building mud dams (known as Johads – a traditional technique that collect rainwater in it) with the help of villagers. After 20 years of his effort he succeeded in constructing nearly 8600 mud dams that collect water and beneficial for over 1000+ villages across Rajasthan.
4 – Shirish Apte
He is an executive engineer with the Minor Irrigation Division of Bhandara district in Maharashtra, In 2008 and restored the first of such tanks of Malguzaars days and it led to recharged ground water & increased farming productivity and fish production in the area. And this will prompted the district administration to restore about 21 Malguzaris tank in Bhandra.
5- Abid Surti
Abid Surti runs one man NGO name with Drop Dead foundation, which focused work on wastewater and plumbing problem such as leaks and all in Mumbai. All the work by him is free. After 2007, the first year of the ngo existence he visited over 1666 houses on Mira road and fix 414 leaking taps for free. His work now inspired other people in country for wastewater treatment toward saving the more & more water.
